(Tuesday - December
29, 2020) - Rodney A. Adams, age 63, of Kingsford, passed away on
Friday, December 25, at his home, following a courageous battle with
metastatic lung cancer.
Rod was born January 28, 1957, in
Marinette, son of the late Louis "Jake" and Ada Lorraine Adams. He
graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1975 and was a lifelong
resident of the area. Rod attended the University of Michigan for a
short time, returning home to help his mother after his father's
passing. He was employed at Grede Foundry in Kingsford for 35 years.
Rod was a member of the National Honors Society at Iron Mountain
High School and participated in Mountaineer football and other sports
during his high school years. Rod was known by many people as "Ruthless
Rod" for his sharp pool league skills. He enjoyed participating in pool
league for several years with his team at Bob and Jerry's and Polly's
Underground where he was a top 10 shooter in the league. In the summer
and fall, Rod enjoyed camping at Lake Emily, traveling to the Keweenaw,
and viewing the sunsets at Lake Antoine and Calumet Waterworks Park/
Lake Superior. One of his favorite parts of his Keweenaw travels was
tending the fire at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge Cabins. Rod spent much
time besting others at games such as Cribbage and Pinochle and
complaining when the game wasn't going his way. He also enjoyed
listening to music, writing, poetry, cruising rustic roads, and tubing.
Rod's favorite holiday was Christmas and through his battle with cancer,
he continually had a goal to make it to Christmas.
Rod is
survived by his significant other, Cheryl Johnson; two brothers, Robert
Adams and Ryan Adams; four sisters, Mary (Joe) Eutizi, Sharon Adams, Ada
Cespedes, and Jill (Lee) Matzen; thirteen nieces and nephews; and
twenty-one great-nieces and nephews.
