(Monday
- December 14, 2020) - Frederick A. "Fred" Fox, age 65, of Spread Eagle,
passed away on Saturday, December 12, at Dickinson County Memorial
Hospital, after fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Fred was born May 7, 1955, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Myrton
"Fred" and Maryann (Tretheway) Fox. Fred's early years were spent
growing up in Trout Creek, Michigan. He attended and graduated from Iron
Mountain High School, class of 1973; and continued his education at Paul
Smith College in New York, later transferring to Lake Superior State
University in Salt Ste. Marie. Fred married Caryn Hafk on April 26,
2003, in Florence. They resided in Spread Eagle.
Fred was a
department supervisor at The Home Depot, and many customers would use
him as the "go-to guy" because he could help you find whatever you were
looking for. He was always willing to help with a team depot project.
One of his favorite projects was making a cop car as a Halloween costume
for his little buddy Austin. Fred also bartended for many years at Dina
Mia in Florence.
Fred's passion was the outdoors; he loved to
hunt and fish and enjoyed his trips out west and to Alaska. He loved to
tell stories of his experiences hunting and fishing and even had quite a
few of those stories published in the Florence Mining News in his own
section named "Fox Tales." People would often ask him where the best
fishing was on the area lakes, and he would draw you a map telling you
exactly where and which landmark to look for, and lo and behold, you'd
catch fish or at least have the best time trying. He had a great sense
of humor, was quick with a joke, and enjoyed a vodka and sour back in
the day.
He was most proud to be a husband, dad, and grandpa; his
grandkids were his heart and soul and looked so forward to his video
messaging or using the Portal with them, listening to Jordan read or
using the filters with Deklin.
Fred is survived by his loving
wife, Caryn, Spread Eagle; one daughter Stephanie (Tim) Frost of
Ellicott City, Maryland; one Brother Robert (Lisa) Fox of Naples,
Florida; two sisters Cathy (Paul) Lundy of Spread Eagle and Susie Fox of
Iron Mountain; one granddaughter Jordan Lee Frost; one grandson Deklin
Abbott Frost, both of Ellicott City, Maryland; and the mother of his
children Susan (Baldwin) Fox of Mt. Airy, Maryland.
In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Andrea Fox.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 19, from 10:00 AM until Noon at
the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A private family service will
