05, 2020) - George O. Nelson, age 92, of Florence, passed into heaven on
Monday, November 30, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. George was an honest
man with a strong Christian faith who was also a great prayer warrior.
He was a loving, nurturing, and loyal father and husband. He was married
to Gertrude Nelson for 55 years and raised four children. His devotion
to his children's development was extraordinary and appreciated. George
was a successful businessman who ran the cement masonry side of the
family business - G.O. Nelson & Sons, Inc. George was a member of the
Cement Masons' Union Local 502 and Carpenters' Union Local 10 for over
70 years. He was highly creative, and this showed in his gardening,
woodworking, and cooking/baking skills. He was an Army veteran, who
served his country with pride and honor during the Korean War. Always a
perfectionist, he would settle for nothing but the best.
George
in survived by his sons, Eric Nelson of O'Fallon, Illinois and Leif
(Carol) Nelson of Tarpon Springs, Florida; daughters, Inger (Paul)
Jacobson of Stevens Point, Wisconsin and Greta Nelson of Stuarts Draft,
Virginia; grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Scott, Rebecca Nelson, Niles
Nelson, Aarika Nelson, Anders Jacobson; and great grandson, "little
George;" siblings, Janet Johnson of Iron Mountain and Phil (Jane) Nelson
of Libertyville, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
Gertrude.
The family thanks Maryhill Manor staff for their
professional and loving care throughout the past three years.
In
lieu of flowers, donations in George's name may be made to Norway
Evangelical Covenant Church, where he was part of the church family. Due
to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, a memorial service will be
planned for spring/summer 2021 so that family and friends may safely
travel and attend.
