November 25, 2020) - Jean Evelyn Hamlin, age 95, of Norway, passed away
Saturday, November 21, at Evergreen Assisted Living in Norway.
Jean was born on June 25, 1925 in Norway, the daughter of the late Ivar
and Helen (Lesnick) Warner. She graduated from Norway High School in
1943 and continued on to receive her RN degree in 1946 from Loyola
University School of Nursing, while working at Columbus Hospital in
Chicago. She moved back home after completing school, and took her first
job at the General Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Jean married Walter
“Andy” Hamlin on July 26, 1947 at Grace United Methodist Church in
Norway.
Jean and Andy moved to Berwin, Illinois for a short time
but settled in Marquette, while Andy was attending Northern Michigan
University. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital there. Once again, they
returned to the Chicago area for six years, before returning to Norway
in 1958 permanently.
She worked at the Anderson Memorial Hospital
and for Doctor Gladstone for many years.
Jean was a member of
Grace United Methodist Church; was a very good singer and enjoyed
singing in the choir.
Jean is survived by her husband of 73 years
Andy; son Mike (Christine) Hamlin of Norway; daughter Julie (Tom) Coombs
of Norway; grandchildren Luke Hamlin and Nick (Brittanie) Hamlin both of
Gaylord; Melissa (Paul) Sheldon of Iron Mountain and Bob Coombs of
Miami; 4 great grandchildren Kiara, Kody, Kaden Sheldon and Henley Jean
Hamlin; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
sister Deloris Zimmerman.
At this time there will be no funeral
services.
Interment will be held at the Norway Township Cemetery.
The Ortman Funeral Home of Norway is in charge of arrangementes. |
