23, 2020) - Marjorie "Marge" M. Schmutzler, 96, of Kingsford, passed
away Friday, November 20, 2020, at Evergreen Assisted Living in
Kingsford.
Marjorie was born October 3, 1924 in Iron Mountain to
the late Paul and Ruth (Whitenack) Sitka. She graduated from Channing
High School in 1942 and went on to earn her B.S. degree in education
from Illinois College where she met her future husband, Dr. Walter
Schmutzler, during her freshman year. They were married and resided in
the Iron Mountain area where Dr. Schmutzler practiced family medicine,
and Marjorie stayed home and raised their two children. Dr. Schmutzler
preceded her in death in 1977.
Marjorie was a member of the IM-K
Women's Club, the Community Chorus, the Chippewa Club, DCH Hospital
League and the First Presbyterian Church Choir. In her free time she
enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching, playing the piano, and gardening,
especially her dahlias and gladiolas. She was also an avid Green Bay
Packer fan, a stockholder and season ticket holder since 1958. She
attended the Ice Bowl game and continued attending home Packer games
well into her 80's.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Diane
(Dr. Jeffery) Cleven of Portland, Oregon, and David (Christine)
Schmutzler of Breitung Township; grandchildren, Chad (Sean) Cleven of
Tulalia, Washington, Ryan Cleven of Portland, Oregon, Andy (Danielle)
Schmutzler of Green Bay, Jodi (Brian) Olson of Soebiski, Wisconsin, Matt
(Tara) Tauriainen of Green Bay, Brad (Nikki) Schmutzler of Iron
Mountain, and Kevin (Carissa) Schmutzler of Manistee, Michigan;
great-grandchildren, Aiden Cleven, Chase, Lauren, and Grace Olson, Mya
and Alaina Tauriainen, Jonathon and Kaitlyn Schmutzler, and Logan
(Chloe), Caden, Madelyn, and Lillian Schmutzler; one brother, Robert
(Bev) Sitka of Green Bay; nieces and nephews, Pat, Jackie, Rick,
Michelle, Debbie, Carri, Randy, Sharon, and Larry; nephews, Kerry and
Kent Chapman; and special friends Bill and Jan Cummings, Frank & Frankie
Dalpra, and the United Presbyterian Church choir members.
Along
with her husband, Dr. Walter Schmutzler, Marjorie was preceded in death
by her siblings, Lois (Sam) Kirchenwitz and Dorthy "Dottie" (Don)
Neerdaels; sister-in-law, Verlaine (Doug) Chapman of St. Louis,
Missouri; and special friends, June Waisinen, Dorthy Edens, and Willard
& Jeanette Miller.
The family would like to extend a special
thank you to the MCU staff at Evergreen Assisted Living, especially Jane
and Dave Anderson, along with Dr. Donald Jacobs, MD, who provided
Marjorie with 43 years of special care.
