Dennis C. Martens, age 73, of Norway, passed away peacefully on Friday,
October 23, at Florence Health Services in Florence.
Dennis was
born August 15, 1947, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, son of the late Robert
and Mabel (Wood) Martens. He grew up on the family farm in Egg Harbor,
Wisconsin.
Dennis graduated from Manitowoc High School in
Manitowoc, Wisconsin, class of 1967. Following graduation, he worked for
Hamilton Manufacturing in Two Rivers, Wisconsin and Peterson Ship
Building in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, before moving to Kingsford in 1975,
where he began a career with M.J. Electric as an equipment operator
working all over the country, until retiring in 2009.
Dennis
passionately enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, camping, traveling and
especially creating memories on his fishing trips to Alaska & Canada. He
looked forward to his breakfast every morning for over 20 years at
Mary's Place in Beecher, Wis.
Survivors include two sons, David
(Michelle Floriano) Martens of Norway and Jeremy (Alice) Martens of
Whidbey Island, Washington; two daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Schiller of
Newago, Michigan and Jaime (Mark Marsden) Martens; grandchildren: Brooke
(Joe Blaszczyk) Martens, Brandon Martens, Christi (Joe) Holstine and
children Brayden & Hailee, Ben (Lexie) Schiller and daughter Isabella,
Preston (Alexis) Cross and son Sawyer, Michael Schiller, Natosha (Lance)
Cross, Racheal & Genevieve Schiller; one brother, Andrew (Vicki) Martens
of Appleton; one sister, Katherine (Sheila) Rose, also of Appleton; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his
parents and a brother, Gary Martens.
Visitation will be held on
Friday October 30, from 10 until 11:00 AM at First Covenant Church in
Norway. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the
church. Pastor James Danielson will officiate. Burial will take place on
Saturday, October 31 at 11:00 AM in Egg Harbor Cemetery, in Egg Harbor,
Wisconsin.
Dennis' family would especially like to thank the
staff at Florence Health Services for their incredible care and
compassion shown to Dennis and his family during his illness.
