(Saturday - October 24, 2020) - Charlene J. Johnson, age 91, of Kingsford, passed away on Thursday, October 22nd at Manor Care Healthcare Services. Her heartbroken family stood vigil outside her window and in the end at her bedside as she succumbed to the effects of the Covid 19 virus.

Charlene was born on October 8, 1929 in Norway, daughter of the late Agnes (Oberthaler) Faull and Hilding Peterson. She has been a resident of this area most her life though she did enjoy several years living in Florida with her husband. She attended Norway schools and then started her working career as a nurse's aide at the Powers Sanitarium. Later she obtained a cosmetology degree and owned and worked as a stylist at the Hairport in Kingsford. She also was employed at D & B and Andreini's as a sales clerk. Most recently she loved her work as a greeter at Walmart. She married John Johnson, a former pitcher for the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. He preceded her in death in 1991.

Charlene loved her Lord and Savior and attended the Norway Covenant Church. She was a generous, giving person who always sought for ways to help people. She enjoyed cooking and baking especially for others and gave away her German chocolate cakes to anyone who had a need or who had helped her. She was very artistic and enjoyed interior design in her own home and in her work at the furniture store. She was always ahead of the times in fashion and style.

In addition to her husband and her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Eugene, Franklin, Richard, Jimmy Peterson and Clifford Faull and her sister, Kathy Hendrickson and step father, Leonard Faull.

Charlene is survived by her three daughters, Sherry (Bill) Baumann of Crestwood, KY, Shelly (Jim) Danielson of Iron Mountain and Marcia (Rob) Hench of St. Francis, Wisconsin; sisters, Doris (Sonny) Thomas of Norway, Marcy (Don) Brown of Niagara, Marleah Kandi LeMaster of Florida and brother, Jerry (Jan) Eklund of Ironwood; grandchildren, Tonya (Brian) Bare, James (Holly) Baumann, Melissa (Ibe) Koury, Annika Danielson, Trang (Ross) Neubauer, Jared Hench and Kyle (Italia) Hench; great grandchildren, Bailey, Lauren, Geneva, Jace, Mattie, Dillon, Frederick, Peyton, Addison, Jon, Amelia and Eli. Two other special people in Char's life were her favorite nephew, Brian (Lisa) Swanson, who was almost like a son and her cousin, Dorothy Anderson.

Memorial services are being planned for a later date. Burial will be in the Norway Twp. Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Manor Care. The CNA's and nurses on her wing were continually enriching her life with their loving care. The nursing staff that cared for Charlene during her final days showed sacrificial love and an uncompromising commitment of care for our mother in the face of the Corona Virus Pandemic. We will be forever grateful for their kindness, expertise and wisdom.
