Charlene J. Johnson, age 91, of Kingsford, passed away on Thursday,
October 22nd at Manor Care Healthcare Services. Her heartbroken family
stood vigil outside her window and in the end at her bedside as she
succumbed to the effects of the Covid 19 virus.
Charlene was born
on October 8, 1929 in Norway, daughter of the late Agnes (Oberthaler)
Faull and Hilding Peterson. She has been a resident of this area most
her life though she did enjoy several years living in Florida with her
husband. She attended Norway schools and then started her working career
as a nurse's aide at the Powers Sanitarium. Later she obtained a
cosmetology degree and owned and worked as a stylist at the Hairport in
Kingsford. She also was employed at D & B and Andreini's as a sales
clerk. Most recently she loved her work as a greeter at Walmart. She
married John Johnson, a former pitcher for the New York Yankees and the
Chicago White Sox. He preceded her in death in 1991.
loved her Lord and Savior and attended the Norway Covenant Church. She
was a generous, giving person who always sought for ways to help people.
She enjoyed cooking and baking especially for others and gave away her
German chocolate cakes to anyone who had a need or who had helped her.
She was very artistic and enjoyed interior design in her own home and in
her work at the furniture store. She was always ahead of the times in
fashion and style.
In addition to her husband and her mother and
father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Eugene,
Franklin, Richard, Jimmy Peterson and Clifford Faull and her sister,
Kathy Hendrickson and step father, Leonard Faull.
survived by her three daughters, Sherry (Bill) Baumann of Crestwood, KY,
Shelly (Jim) Danielson of Iron Mountain and Marcia (Rob) Hench of St.
Francis, Wisconsin; sisters, Doris (Sonny) Thomas of Norway, Marcy (Don)
Brown of Niagara, Marleah Kandi LeMaster of Florida and brother, Jerry
(Jan) Eklund of Ironwood; grandchildren, Tonya (Brian) Bare, James
(Holly) Baumann, Melissa (Ibe) Koury, Annika Danielson, Trang (Ross)
Neubauer, Jared Hench and Kyle (Italia) Hench; great grandchildren,
Bailey, Lauren, Geneva, Jace, Mattie, Dillon, Frederick, Peyton,
Addison, Jon, Amelia and Eli. Two other special people in Char's life
were her favorite nephew, Brian (Lisa) Swanson, who was almost like a
son and her cousin, Dorothy Anderson.
Memorial services are being
planned for a later date. Burial will be in the Norway Twp. Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Manor Care. The
CNA's and nurses on her wing were continually enriching her life with
their loving care. The nursing staff that cared for Charlene during her
final days showed sacrificial love and an uncompromising commitment of
care for our mother in the face of the Corona Virus Pandemic. We will be
forever grateful for their kindness, expertise and wisdom.
