Michael J. Carey, age 86, of Vulcan, passed away on Tuesday, October 13,
at Manor Care Health Care Services in Kingsford.
Michael was born
on December 4, 1933 in Channing, the son of the late Lester and Mildred
(Hunting) Carey. He graduated from Channing High School in 1952, then
went on to school in Detroit before moving back to Sagola. He served his
country in the US Army from 1954-1956.
Michael worked with his
father in the woods running a sawmill, and as a mechanic at the
Groveland Mine from 1962 until it closed in 1981. He then worked for
Schneider's Iron and Metal in Iron Mountain until his retirement in
1997.
Michael married Marion Bilski in June of 1962 at St.
Barbara's Church in Vulcan. She preceded him in death on September 9,
2020.
He is a member of St. Barbara's Church in Vulcan.
Michael was an all-around handyman, who could make or fix anything. He
loved working with wood and made all sorts of things for family members
and friends. He enjoyed walleye fishing and spending time with his
family.
Michael is survived by his sons David (Sandra) Carey of
Vulcan and Patrick Carey of Stephenson; granddaughters Danielle (Chris)
St. Vincent of Aurora and Jessi (Kyle Cootware) Carey of Vulcan; great
grandchildren Tayler, Ashley, Javen and Maverik; brother Joe (Beverly)
Carey of Grandville; sister-in-law Janise Bilski of Iron Mountain;
special friends Dave Chicha of Vulcan and Bob Peters of Waucedah; and
many nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his
brothers Tom, Jack and Patrick Carey; brother-in-law David Bilski.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20 from 10:30 until
11:30 AM at St. Barbara's Church in Vulcan.
The Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:30 at St. Barbara's Church
with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis officiating.
Interment will follow at
the Norway Township Cemetery.
