William E. "Bill" McCarty
(Monday - October 11, 2021) - William E. "Bill" McCarty, age 92, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Saturday, October 9, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Bill was born November 6, 1928 in Fairfield, Iowa, son of the late Walter and Josephine (Kennedy) McCarty. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1945. Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, served four years, and was honorably discharged in 1949. He married Miriam "Babe" Kurzweil on June 17, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple had nine children. Babe preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 1994.

Bill worked in the heavy equipment industry for over 45 years, primarily building cranes and earth movers. He retired in 1993. He continued his education throughout the years and earned a Bachelor's Degree at age 65. Bill married Carol (Tousignant) Spigarelli on May 23, 1998 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford, the Knights of Columbus, Serra Club and was involved in Habitat for Humanity. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to camp. He also enjoyed carpentry and was a talented woodworker and woodcarver.

Bill is survived by his wife Carol; seven children, Kathleen (Gary) Nack, William Jr. (Susan), Michael (Judy), Patrick (Cecelia), Timothy (Cindy), Thomas (Regina), and Therese (Thomas) Schmitt; five step-children, Barb (Ray) Broullire, Peggy (Dan) Hansen, Paul (Linda) Spigarelli, Jean (Rob) Mellon and Tad Spigarelli; a sister, Alice Mason; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; a daughter, Peggy; a grandson, Nathan (Jenny) Pollard; a sister, Betty Ashmore; and a step-son, Bruce Spigarelli.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday, October 15 at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Father Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian burial.

Interment will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.
