|Beau LaFave has announced that he intends to seek election as the Michigan Secretary of State|
(Monday - October 04, 2021) - Michigan's 108th Legislative District
Representative, Republican Beau LaFave, has announced that he hopes to
become the next Secretary of State of the State of Michigan.
LaFave announced his candidacy via his Facebook page over the weekend. In his posting, LaFave says:
"I am running for secretary of state. Enough is enough! Our current Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson would continue making the 10,000,000 people of Michigan wait weeks and months to see her staff at local offices … after booking an appointment online. It is unacceptable."
"This, and many other issues, we will discuss over the next 13 months, is why I'm running to open the offices and restore integrity to the SOS."
LaFave would have to be selected as the GOP candidate by the 2022 Michigan Republican Convention, since there is no primary election for the office of Secretary of State in Michigan.
Former President Donald Trump has already endorsed Republican state committee member Kristina Karamo of Oak Park, who has gained prominence by questioning last year's election.
In Michigan, the Secretary of State is the top election official.
While members of the Michigan House of Representatives are limited to three terms, LaFave is completing his second term in December, and would be eligible to run for a third term. LaFave would not be able to run for two State offices in the same election cycle, though he could easily withdraw from the State Representative race should he be selected as the Secretary of State candidate.
During his time in the Legislature LaFave has served on the following committees:
Military, Veterans and Homeland Security Committee, Chair
Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Committee
House Agriculture Committee
House Oversight Committee
Judiciary Committee, Majority Vice Chair
