16:43) - Ann Elizabeth Markell, age 78, of Iron Mountain, passed
away on Thursday, September 30, at the Iron County Medical Care
Facility in Crystal Falls.
Ann was born July 30, 1943, in Escanaba, daughter of the late Gustave and Alba (Calvino) Klien. She graduated from Gladstone High School in 1961 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northern Michigan University, graduating in 1965. Ann married Robert Markell on June 19, 1965 at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. She had a passion for teaching and was employed in the Iron Mountain School System for several years. Ann also taught for Bay de Noc College and was extremely proud of the ceremony honoring her achievements over a 25 year career. She loved golfing and was a member of Pine Grove Country Club and Apache Wells in Mesa, Arizona, where she and Bob enjoyed 24 years of wintering. Ann enjoyed many trips to the Island Casino where she was an avid poker slots player and was also the Queen of Gab as she loved socializing any chance she had. Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bob; a son, Jim (Kristie) Markell of Iron Mountain; a daughter, Bobbi Ann (Jeff) Carroll of West Bloomfield, Michigan; sister-in-law, Sandra Markell of Galt, California; grandchildren, Eddie (Ashley) Sundquist, Nick Markell, Nate Markell, Noah Markell (Laura Jacobson), Cory Marcouiller, Ethan and Mason Carroll; two great grandchildren, Kailey and Mathew Sundquist; many nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Jeanne (David) Williams; and many, many friends.
Along with her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Laurie Walstrom, her grandson, Mathew Marcouiller, and her in-laws, Gail & Fern Markell, Lona & Phil Crispigna, LaVaughn & Ward Alquist & Leighton Markell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 10 from Noon to 3:00 PM at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate.
Burial will be at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
A memorial will be established in Ann's memory and gifted to the English department at Bay de Noc Community College.
