Robert "Bobby" R. Ball, age 87, of Alpha, passed away on Thursday,
October 1, at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls. Robert
was born on September 16, 1933, in Alpha, son of the late Walter and
Pauline (Angeli) Ball. He grew up in Alpha and graduated from Alpha High
School, class of 1951. He entered the US Air Force in 1952 and served as
Chief Master Sergeant during the Korean Conflict until his honorable
discharge in 1979. He married Gwyneth "Dee" Gardner on September 13,
1997, in Crystal Falls.
Robert attended the University of
Maryland where he received his Associate degree. He worked for the Iron
County Department of Social Services from 1984 until he retired in 1994.
Robert was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls;
life member of the Alpha Mastodon VFW, where he was a past commander of
the 15th district VFW; he served as Treasurer of the Crystal Falls Lions
Club; he served on the board of directors for the Alpha Mastodon
Community Credit Union and was past president of the Village of Alpha.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Dee; two daughters
Kelly (Brian) Coady of Green Bay and Marlayne (Richard Jr.) Mattlock of
Ariz.; two brothers James (Kathy) Ball of Crystal Falls and Larry
(Peggy) Ball of Camden, Delaware; numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to
his parents, Robert was preceded in death by three brothers Walter
"Slip", Clifford "Chick", and Albert "Puffer" Ball; one sister Judy
Ball.
Private graveside service will be held. Burial will be held
in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls. The Eastside Veterans
Council will accord military honors at graveside.
