(August 25, 2020) - "It is with great sadness
that the family of Rodger L. Palmcook announce his passing on Sunday,
August 23rd at the age of 85."
Rodger was born October 12, 1934 in
Aurora, son of the late Leo and Leona (Neuens) Palmcook. He graduated
from Kingsford High School in 1952 and was a lifelong resident of the
area. Following high school he attended the Wisconsin State Police
Academy, graduating in 1957. Rodger had served in the National Guard for
the state of Wisconsin for several years.
In his civilian life
he continued to be a service to others by being a founding member of the
Town of Aurora volunteer fire department, a Boy Scout Master for many
years and he was a 7 gallon blood donor. Rodger worked as a Switchman at
Michigan Bell Telephone Co. for many years, retiring in 1991. He was an
excellent pie baker and a talented woodworker and craftsman who built
the home he still lived in. He was blessed to be able to live on the
river of his youth, the Menominee River. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs
and Green Bay Packer fan and he loved to hunt grouse and go fishing. His
greatest joy in life though was being with his family.
Rodger
was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Corrine, his infant sons,
Dennis and Scott, and a sister, Betty Gauthier.
He will be
lovingly remembered by his son, Daniel (Noreen) Palmcook of Roseburg
Oregon; his daughter, Judy (Jim) Carncross of Aurora; his grandsons
Michael, Nicholas (Natalee) and Brian Carncross; his sister, Mary Ann
(Paul) Riach of Michigan; and a special friend, Pat Hyland.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 26th from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at
the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral
services will be held at 11:00 Thursday morning, August 27th at American
Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the
Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rodger's nephews, Randy and Gary
Gauthier, Michael Schultz, and Doug, David, and Dean Meress.
The
family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Saint Vincent
Hospital in Green Bay for their care and compassion.
