39-year-old Green Bay man dies as result
of scooter crash in Iron Mountain

(Tuesday - August 24, 2021 - In a news release, issued by the Iron Mountain Police Department, officers reported the death of a 39-year-old Green Bay man, as the result of injuries sustained in the crash of a rental scooter.

Police reported that the man was one of a group of four scooter riders, driving in the 800 block of South Stephenson Avenue.

The accident occurred at about 9:45 PM, when the fourth scooter crashed, causing fatal injuries to the driver. He was rushed to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, where he died about an hour alter.

The driver was apparently not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Only individuals under the age of 19 are required to wear helmets, under Michigan law.

No reason for the crash was given. The accident remains under investigation by the Iron Mountain Police Department.

The scooter rental program was authorized on a trial basis by the Iron Mountain City Council. It is not known if this accident will have any effect on the future of scooter rentals in the City.
