(Tuesday - April 06, 2021) - The City Councils
of both Iron Mountain and Kingsford on Monday gave the nod to moving
this year's Fourth of July parade to July 3rd.
The actions were
based on a request from the Menominee Range Historical Society, which
sponsors the annual event. Society officials requested the change due to
the fact the the Fourth of July falls on a Sunday this year, and they
hope to avoid conflicts with church services.
The Fourth of July
parade normally begins at 9:00 AM. The option of starting the parade
later in the day was discussed. However, high temperatures could make
that problematic, thus the move to July 3rd.
The parade will
begin at 9:00 on Saturday morning, July 3rd. Council action was required
since the parade route will necessitate the closure of streets for the
duration of the parade.
The street closures will involve the
northern side of Woodward Avenue to Carpenter Avenue; Carpenter avenue
from Woodward Avenue to "H" Street, moving east on "H" Street to the
Midtown Mall entrance.
