(Tuesday - March 23,
2021) - Mary Miller Johnson, age 83, of Florence, passed away on
Tuesday, March 23, at her home.
Mary was born May 28, 1937 in Ann
Arbor, daughter of Dr. Norman and Dorothy (Kingsford) Miller. She
graduated from Ann Arbor High School and afterwards attended Florida
Southern University and University of Michigan. In 1958 she married
Michael Groves, who preceded her in death in 1963, and on June 27, 1973,
she married Lindley Johnson in Ann Arbor.
Mary worked as a flight
attendant for TWA, an executive assistant at John Gard Development, and
a medical case manager for 17 years before retiring at the age of 80.
She volunteered as an adoption advocate for the Children's Home Society
of North Carolina and was an expert at French hand sewing, making
beautiful children's clothes. She loved entertaining and her motto was
"The more, the merrier!" If it was a small cocktail party or a sit down
dinner for 30, she was the consummate hostess. She also enjoyed
traveling and spending time at Spread Eagle and with friends.
Mary is survived by her son, Lindley K. (Jacalyn) Johnson of Spread
Eagle; her daughters, Kelly Stenson of Atlanta, Georgia and Kimberly
(Dennis) Vassar of Florence; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Along with her husbands, Michael and Lindley, she was preceded in
death by a son, Mark Johnson; two brothers, Norman F. Miller Jr. and
Edward K. (Joan) Miller.
Private graveside services will be held
in the summer of 2021, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, Indiana.
