(Sunday - March 21, 2021) - David A. Cocking, age 72, of Kingsford passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 18.

Dave was born October 30, 1948, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Howard and Grace (Pirlot) Cocking. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in business from Northern Michigan University. He worked for Breitung Township before taking a position with Dickinson Homes. From there he launched a lifelong career in residential and commercial construction serving Dickinson County and surrounding Wisconsin areas. In 2019, he retired from D.A. Cocking Company, the firm he founded some 35 years earlier.Dave and his brother, Tom, also owned and operated the Woodward Bar in Kingsford for several years. He enjoyed reading, gardening, golfing, grilling and taking pontoon rides. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and smear with his buddies, usually with a glass of Fortissimo in his hand.

Dave called West Lake on Spread Eagle home for many years prior to moving back to Kingsford. The lake was his sanctuary during his working years where he spent quality time with loved ones and lifelong friends. There was always a welcome sign at the dock and a beach full of joy and great summer memories. He will always be remembered as a man of few but meaningful words. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest source of joy and accomplishment later in life and he will forever be loved and missed.

Dave is survived by his daughters, Courtenay Nokes (Brad McKinnon) of Iron Mountain and Emily (Erik) Krull of Kingsford; his daughters' mother, Jane Juchemich; three grandchildren, Brooke (Brad) Uhazie, Alix Nokes (Charles Magley) and Ava Krull; two great-grandchildren, ZanderMagley and Olivia Uhazie; two nieces, Andrea (Mike) Celello and sons Zach and Gabe and Stephanie (Braden) Mook and sons Jackson and Collin; one nephew, Chris Cocking and his daughter Brittnae (Ed) Giesau and children Hunter and Macy; a very special friend, Mary Lou Clement; and former in-laws, Suzanne (Larry) Tinti, Darleen Smith, Dan (Jan) Kauper, Bill (Patty) Kauper and their son, Andy; and many extended family members and good friends.

Dave was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert "Bob", Jerome "Jerry", Thomas "Tom", and infant brother, Stephen; his step-mom, Dorothy "Dolly" Sparapani Cocking and her brothers and sisters, including a special Auntie, Tiny.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 6th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
