(Wednesday - March
10, 2021) - Carolyn (Fredrickson) Cody, age 85, passed away on Friday,
February 12, at her home.
Carolyn was born on December 28, 1935,
in Detroit, daughter of the late Carl and Margaret (Spisak) Fredrickson.
She was a graduate of Birmingham High School.
Her parents
divorced when she was 11 years old, and she lived with many different
family friends the following years, always forever grateful for their
kindness. Carolyn's first job was in Cleveland at the age of 15, selling
tickets by herself at a downtown movie theatre. Her first purchase was a
Brownie Camera which she placed on layaway. Later, she worked for
Aluminum Model Toy Co. in Detroit.
Carolyn met her husband,
Michigan State Police Trooper, later Lieutenant Commander, Delbert Cody
in Detroit, and they married in February of 1955. Transfers moved them
around the state to Gaylord, Lansing, Detroit and Iron Mountain.
Together they raised two sons, Daniel and William. As a homemaker she
did everything; also at the cottage in Lakeview and camp in Crystal
Falls. She worked as a florist in Gaylord and Lansing, and as a bank
teller in Detroit and Iron Mountain.
After their divorce in 1987,
Carolyn started a new life and long career in Florida, first in a new
home in Bonita Springs and then in another at Pelican Bay in Naples.
There she worked as a teller supervisor at SunTrust Bank for many years
until retiring at age 62. She returned to Iron Mountain and built a home
near Lake Antoine, where she enjoyed the beach every summer.
Carolyn was modern, independent and forever young. She loved walking the
beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, taking cruises, homemaking, interior
designing, driving her Mustang convertible, dancing, enjoying loud
music, casinos, Tucson, Arizona, California, and being creative. No one
gift wrapped more beautiful packages than Carolyn. She was a proud
progressive and Democrat, and was elected several times as Precinct
Delegate, riding in the Fourth of July parades. Above all, Carolyn was
fearless.
Carolyn is survived by her oldest son, Daniel,
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two siblings.
Carolyn is
preceded in death by her beloved son, William, her former husband, one
sibling and her step-brother.
Carolyn specifically requested that
all memorial donations be made to the Research Department of St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place; Memphis, TN 38105 or
