(Sunday - February 28, 2021) - While the Dickinson County Board of Commissioners did approve a number of appointments at its last meeting, other seats remain vacant, for want of applicants to fill those seats.

It appears that the most popular County organization, the one that most people want to be part of, is the Dickinson County Fair Board, Chaired by County Commissioner John P. Degenaer, Jr., (D-Dist 5). There were a total of five applicants for the three seats on the board, three incumbents and two new applicants. The Commissioners ended up reappointing all of the incumbents, though they did invite the other applicants to stay interested, as seats do open up occasionally. Board Chair Henry Wender (R-Dist 4) said he voted to reappoint the incumbents because they have been doing a great job. The reappointments are all for three year terms, set to expire on March 1 of 2024.

The Commissioners also approved two appointments to the Northpointe Behavioral Services Board. There were only two applicants for the two open seats, which are set to expire on March 21, of 2022.

While there were two openings on the Fumee Wildlife Area board, there was only one applicant, leaving one additional seat open. The opening is for a parial term on the board, set to expire on July 14. of 2023.

There were no applicants for any of the seats on either the County Planning Commission or the County Library Board. There are two openseats on the Planning Commission, one for a three year term set to expire on February 28, of 2024, and two partial term seats, set to expire on February 28 of 2023. There is one open seat on the Library Board, that for a partia term, set to expire on December 31, of 2014.

Any Dickinson County citizen willing to serve on one of these boards or commissions is invited to call the County Controller's office at ounty Controller's office at: (906) 774-2573.
