(Wednesday - January
06, 2021) - Garry L. Mongrain, age 75, of Kingsford, entered eternal
rest on New Year's Eve.
Garry was born on March 16, 1945, the
son of the late Robert and LaVerne Mongrain. He attended Kingsford
Schools, graduating with the class of 1964. While in high school he
participated in Flivver team sports. He also played baseball from Little
League to adulthood. He was passionate about sports and played sports on
every field and court in this area and many others. After high school,
he worked in the local area as a carpenter.
Garry later moved to
California, still working as a self employed carpenter, living near his
brother, Dr. Dale Mongrain. He was a gifted carpenter, a trait from his
grandfather, the late Joseph Mongrain. Garry taught carpentry skills to
minorities as they were eager to learn. Memorable times in his life
included all the sports he played, family trips to the World's Fair,
family reunions and celebrating his parents 50th wedding anniversary
which he came home for. In their early years, Garry enjoyed time spent
caring for and having fun with his first two grandchildren. This was
short lived as his work took him back to California. He went back and
forth from Kingsford to California for a number of years until he moved
back to Kingsford to care for his aging parents. His parents were
grateful for the remodeling and garage addition Garry did and they
enjoyed the improvements. After helping his parents, Garry returned to
California for several years until failing health brought him back to
Kingsford in 2012.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing and
listening to 60's rock and roll. Garry was an avid Green Bay Packer
football fan. He and his brother were in Bible studies together and felt
the importance of this time spent together. Garry looked forward to the
Swaggert television presentations, both the gospel music and sermons.
His favorite song was "Miracle" Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8. As fate would have
it, Sheri Johnston Meinolf became his caregiver/lifeline during his
failing health (Proverbs 17:17)
In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Arnold; his brother, Dr.
Dale Mongrain.
He is survived by his five children and their
families, Rodney Mongrain of Kingsford, Bryan Mongrain of Kingsford,
Wendy Tershner of Kingsford, Ron Mongrain of Florida and Jamie Day of
Nevada; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also by nephews,
Jason and Darren Mongrain and niece, Kimberly Mongrain.
Due to
the Corona Virus restrictions, no funeral services will take place at
this time.
Special thank you to Dr. Brazeau at Dickinson County
Hospital for caring for Garry in his final hours In ICU on New Years
Eve.
