Obituary Report

(Kingsford - December 22, 2017) - Kate Kaye Chiesa, age 105, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, at Manor Care in Kingsford.

Kate was born on September 19, 1912 in Cusick, Washington to the late Chester Edwin Rice and Kate Howe. Kate’s family moved to Oconto, Wisconsin immediately after her birth. She married Tulio Joseph Chiesa on March 16, 1935. Tulio preceded her in death on January 1, 1985. Kate lived a very exciting life, experiencing more change than the average individual. She traveled across the plains of the US via covered wagon to Wisconsin, endured the Great Depression, experienced the inventions of trains (steam engine), electricity in homes, television, automobiles, appliances, computers, mobile phones and the list goes on.

Residents of Dickinson County would frequently visit her to listen as she told them story after story after story about the logging industry or the “Great Depression”. Her descriptive details of the stories were fascinating and when you left, you felt you just experienced the event.

She learned to drive at the age of 77. Her kindness was unmatched, as she always helped a family or friend. She played a huge role in the Kingsford Genealogy club and has passed the family history onto her grandchildren.

Survivors include her grandsons, Tige and Jayne who reside in North Carolina, Todd and Lisa who reside in Georgia, and TJ and Joann who reside in Texas. She also has 7 great grandchildren, Taylor, Tanner, Janae, Jaclyn, Jillian, William, and Nicolas.

She was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick (Bonnie “Becky”) Chiesa.

In honoring her wishes, Kate’s ashes will be spread in the woods as she loved the outdoors.

Memorials may be made to the Almost Home Animal Shelter in Kate’s memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.
