Obituary Report


Barbara J. Winkler, age 78, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at her home.

Barbara Jo was born on April 25, 1939 in St. Paul, Minnesota, daughter of the late Rudolph and Alice (Hankey) Miresse. She was raised in the Iron Mountain and Kingsford area, graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1957. She married James "Wink" Winkler on February 4, 1961 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2016 after nearly 55 wonderful years together.

Barbara and her husband Jim “Wink” owned and operated a tavern called "Wink's Place” in Iron Mountain from 1968 to 1972. After selling the tavern she went to work for Perina's and then AutoGlass Specialist until her retirement in 2003.

In her post-retirement Barb also worked for several years at Walmart. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry and the Ministry Support Team, was an acolyte and chalice bearer, was a Eucharistic Visitor visiting home bound parishioners, and was Ordained a Deacon in 1998. She was a former member of the Lady Elks and the Eastern Star. Barbara enjoyed ice-skating, forensics, gardening, and over the years she affectionately pampered several special pets. Barb treasured time spent with her family and many friends.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Rudolph (Bonnita) Winkler of Iron Mountain and William Winkler of Dickinson, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Nickolas, Alisann, and Nathan, and great-grandchild Thaddeus.

In addition to her parents and husband, her daughter-in-law Deborah preceded her in death.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron Mountain. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Rev. David Johnson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
