Obituary Report

(Iron Mountain - February 13, 2018) - Robert Palmer, age 70, of Sagola, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 10th.

Robert was born on February 25, 1949 to Hazel and Richard Palmer in Hinsdale, Illinois. He lived in the Chicagoland area until moving to the Upper Peninsula with his bride Carol and newborn daughter, Heather, in 1978 to begin a life in "the woods". He loved working in the woods and built a tiny log cabin in Channing Michigan where he and Carol welcomed their second daughter, Elesha, in 1980 before Carol had enough of roughing it and they moved to Randville. There Carol was relieved to have running water! Their son, Josh, was born in 1982 and they enjoyed many years in Randville until moving to their home of the past 25 years in Sagola.

It was in this home where the family enjoyed years of family gatherings, dinners, game nights (which may or may not have ended in a fight), campfires and 4 wheeler rides, that Bob took his final breath while resting in his favorite chair in the early hours of February 10, 2018.

Bob was as faithful as they come. He was the best father, patient husband and loyal friend and he loved Jesus deeply. He gave us the greatest gift; a father who trusts God and taught us to trust Him too. He was always there for his family, provided and loved us well. We will miss him greatly. We will miss how his eyes lit up before he told the punchline of a joke. We will miss the long talks around a campfire and times spent fishing.

Bob is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Palmer (Meyer), four children Heather (Karl) Kramer, Elesha (Jason) Freeman, Josh (Marie) Palmer, and Ben Urbans, sister Cindy (Lamar) Mantooth , nephews Steve, Tom and Pat Harders, niece Becky Harders Railey, his best friends and partners in crime Ted Johnson and Tim Johnson, and 14 grandkids who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents Hazel (Branback) and Richard Palmer and grandson Weston Kramer.

There will be a memorial service to remember and celebrate Bob's life here on earth at Family Baptist Church 536 E Breitung Avenue in Kingsford at 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 15th. His son-in-law, Pastor Karl Kramer will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
