Obituary Report

(Iron Mountain - January 02, 2018) - Emil P. Orn, age 83, of Hamilton Lakes, passed away on Thursday December 28, 2017 at Manor Care in Kingsford.

Emil was born May 5, 1934 in Chicago, son of the late Emil Sr., and Betty (Jahnke) Orn. He was raised in the Chicago area and following his graduation from Tilden Technical High School he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology. Emil joined the Marine Corps to proudly serve his country from 1956-1958. He moved to Hamilton Lakes in 1960 and on September 21, 1963 married Judith Sodermark at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. They shared 53 years of devoted marriage together. Emil cherished his family, as he was a wonderful father and husband and a very kind gentle soul man that was a generous giver.

Emil worked as a draftsman for many years at LODAL INC., before retiring in 1996. He attended St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Vulcan, and actively participated in various events and projects there; served on the parish counsel and was a very generous giver to his church. He was a member of the Hamilton Lakes Association and treasurer of the Hamilton Lakes Watershed Project.

Emil had lived at Manorcare since May 4, 2016 as a resident and made many friends there, enjoying his coffee time every morning. He loved to sing and was resident of the month in August 2017. The nursing staff at Manorcare and the C N A’s did a wonderful job taking care of Emil. His daughter Amy would visit him and bring him the things he asked for and wanted. He also was able to go to the home on the lake three times in the summer of 2016. His son David would come visit from Milwaukee and his sister Patricia from Marquette along with many other friends that knew him.

Emil is survived by his daughter, Amy Orn of Hamilton Lakes; his son, David Orn of Milwaukee; a step-son, Mike Johnson of Las Vegas; a sister, Patricia (Clifford) Frenn of Marquette; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Emil was preceded by his wife, Judy on August 23, 2016

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3rd from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Barbara's Church in Vulcan. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to The Salvation Army. He donated to this organization for over 35 years.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
